ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS

Additional residential dwelling units (ADUs), tiny homes, laneway houses, backyard homes, garden suites, carriage houses - pick your nomenclature, we build them all! These buildings are an excellent way to take full advantage of your property. Their use cases are many, including as rental income generators, home offices, multi-family arrangements, or in-law suites. Our team has designed and built many ADUs in Guelph and the surrounding areas.

The accessory homes we build are uniquely designed for our clients’ specific properties and use cases. As such, each build presents its own set of logistical and design challenges, for which we can draw on a wealth of experience from our in house design team, logistical and administrative experts, and skilled craftspeople. We have the ability to design, render, manage and build your project from start to finish. No funny business; just unmatchable value by way of unmatched quality and performance.

3D Walkthrough: Project Harvard

projects

As Guelph’s ADU experts, we’ve completed a wide range of projects, and one of the most interesting parts of our work is that no two units are ever built for the same purpose. Each one is uniquely tailored to the people who will use it. While we’re proud of every project, we’ve highlighted a select few below. Click any image to explore the full gallery.

  • Cannot exceed 80 square metres (861 square feet) measured from the interior walls and cannot exceed 45% of the gross floor area of the main building (all floor levels included).

  • Can have a maximum of two bedrooms.

  • Cannot occupy more than 30% of the yard, including all other accessory buildings and structures.

  • The maximum building height is 5 metres (16.4 ft), and cannot exceed the overall height of the main dwelling.

When an additional residential dwelling unit is located above a detached garage, the maximum total building height is 6.1 metres (20 ft), and cannot exceed the overall building height of the main dwelling.

  • A minimum of one parking space is required for each additional residential dwelling unit.

  • In 2025, the City of Guelph updated their policies surrounding the tie-in to the municipal sewer system. Homeowners are now required to pay for the cost of tying in the new drain system to the municipal line, which adds an approximate $30,000 line item to each ADU project.
